Microsuction Earwax Removal

Microsuction earwax removal is undertaken using a microscope and a medical suction device, hence the term microsuction. A very thin wand type fitting is fitted to the end of the suction tube which allows the professional to gently remove the earwax from your canal.

Usually micro suction does not need pre-treatment with drops, however, two days of Earol (clinically treated olive oil) is the best preparation. An audiologist will examine your ear using a binaural microsope (either fixed or with loupes glasses) and, using the fine low pressure suction device, safely remove the blockage. Also, using a video otoscope we will show you the condition of the ear before and after the treatment.

Why microsuction?

Microsuction is the safest and most comfortable method of earwax removal, no liquids are used during the procedure. Which means that there is no fuss or mess during the procedure. The fact that we can clearly see the ear canal and more importantly exactly what we are doing, makes it an exceptionally safe procedure. It is an especially comfortable process and it is usually undertaken in a few minutes making it a same day service.

The Benefits of Our Microsuction Ear Cleaning

Using our services ensures that you have your earwax removed safely, quickly and by a person you can trust. The process is usually over in a few minutes and the majority of people find it easy and comfortable. The process is the safest way to remove earwax as the professional can see everything they are doing during the removal.

Unlike ear syringing or ear irrigation, where ear wax is flushed out without a view of the canal, during microsuction, the canal and the ear wax is being directly viewed with the microscope whilst it is being removed. This makes the procedure much quicker, safer and comfortable for the patient.

The Mews Practice has state of the art equipment and offer electrosurgery for troublesome skin conditions with good cosmetic outcomes.

THE HYFRECATOR acts like an accurate electronic beam that can remove a variety of benign skin lesions. With its wide range of power settings, electrosurgery treats even the most delicate facial lesions as well as the thickest scaling skin conditions on the body and limbs. Some of the conditions that respond with excellent results are:

  • Arcochordon (skin tags) – These can be annoying if in awkward places.

  • Actinic Keratoses – These pre-cancerous areas, often occur on the scalp and for head. Since the skin condition occurs on exposed surfaces, a good cosmetic result is essential. Electrosurgery achieves this as well.

  • Capillary Angiomas (small red blood vessels/spots)

  • Warts

  • Molluscum Contagiosum – These viral lesions resolve quickly with electrosurgery.

  • Seborrheic Kerastoses (dark scaly age related marks)- these are perhaps the most common and most cosmetically annoying skin blemishes in adults. Their presence is often associated with old age. The cosmetic result is usually excellent.

Where appropriate, The Mews also offer traditional minor surgery for lumps and bumps in purpose built minor operation suites.

Prices start at £195 for non-members and 175.50 for members for minor surgery. If Histology is required it is at an additional cost of £150.

What is PRP?

PRP is a new form of regenerative medicine that utilises your own blood, where the platelet rich plasma component is extracted, concentrated and reintroduced to rejuvenate the skin.

The concentrated platelets in PRP contain vast amounts of bioactive proteins, which include growth factors. These growth factors have been shown to initiate accelerated tissue repair, and to have positive effects on skin rejuvenation

What areas can PRP treat?

  • Face
  •  Eyes
  • Hair
  • Wounds
  • Joints
  • Neck

What are the benefits of PRP?

  • Improve the texture of the skin
  • Create better skin tone
  • Tightens the skin
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Increase skin thickness and vitality
  •  Initiate healing Response

How often should i have PRP?

Generally 2-3 treatments are advised though more may be depending on different skin parameters such as age, baseline condition as a result of smoking, sun damage, genetics and others.

Maintenance is advised once-twice a year.

Musculoskeletal PRP

PRP can be used to promote healing in injured joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. This treatment can be utilised in order to return to activity quickly after injury and is found to be highly effective for pain management.

PRP does not involve complex surgical procedures. Injecting PRP increases the amount of soft tissue generation in various areas of the body, including the tendons, ligaments, as well as collagen and cartilage

PRP and Carboxy Therapy combined

We have found that combined Carboxytherapy and PRP together have proven to be of great benefit.

Dr Marion Gluck trained as a doctor in Hamburg more than 30 years ago and has since gained global acclaim for her work in women’s health and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.

She started working in Australia 20 years ago and began to see the need for a better understanding of hormone therapy and more widespread treatment options for women experiencing issues. Marion believed that every person should have access to bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and the benefits needed to be discussed with patients and widely understood.

It became her mission to educate and empower people to take control of their hormonal well-being. Too often people ignore symptoms or fail to seek help because they simply don’t realise that anything is wrong. It was for this reason that she founded The Marion Gluck Clinic. Along with her team of highly trained doctors, she has helped thousands of women and men achieve optimum health and balance. She also set up our own compounding pharmacy, Specialist Pharmacy, where each prescription is prepared to the unique specifications of the patient. It is this personalised approach that has always put the Marion Gluck Clinic at the head of the pack and enabled her to offer the best possible care to the patients treated.

Dr Gluck has also developed a unique training course for doctors looking to offer bio-identical hormone replacement therapy to their patients, ensuring that more and more people have access to this treatment every day.

Bio Identical Hormones

Men and women need a balanced endocrine system as hormones regulate our bodily functions. Throughout different stages in our lives our bodies change. As we age our hormones (oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone) decline, which impact our behaviour and our functioning.

BHRT is a process of re balancing the naturally occurring hormones which have depleted due to age.

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy can provide relief from a wide range of symptoms associated with:
Andropause (male menopause)
other hormone-related conditions
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Polycystic ovarian syndrome
Thyroid dysfunction.

The symptoms:

•      Fatigue
•      Mood swings and depression
•      Hot flushes and night sweats
•      Sleep disturbances
•      Anxiety
•      Low libido
•      Sexual dysfunction
•      High cholesterol
•      Osteoporosis
•      Memory loss
•      Dry and wrinkled ski

Bio identical Hormones are plant- derived hormones that are identical in chemical structure to those found in the human body.  The hormones are prescribed and produced based on each individual requirement. They are prepared in a compounding pharmacy.

Bio-identical Hormones for Men

For men, testosterone is linked to a great deal of functions that not only determine your quality of life, but quality of health. As men age, testosterone decreases. This can begin as early as 30. Most laboratory tests give an acceptable range for testosterone between 250 and 1000. This is a wide scope but symptoms can arise at levels of 300-500 as well. The rate of testosterone decline and symptom occurrences varies by individual

As testosterone and andropause levels decrease men will feel a difference in the points below:

•  Decreased erection frequency and firmness
•   Low libido
•  Depressed mood
•  Difficulty losing weight
•  Trouble gaining muscle with exercise
•  Decreased exercise performance
•  Fatigue

Men at risk of low testosterone

•     Overweight and obese
•     Diabetics
•     Smokers
•     Drug Users (heroine, prescription pain killers, or ADD/ADHD medicine)

How can Bioidentical hormones help?

Testosterone is made mainly in the testes and is under tight regulatory control of the brain and its hormones in the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus. The body controls testosterone production by using testosterone levels as a stimulus to the brain to either make more (in times when levels decrease) or make less (when levels are normal). This delicate system involves 3 separate sets of hormones that act as a checks-and-balances system that keeps levels optimal. Even subtle imbalances in this system can lead to decreased testosterone levels. Testosterone production will decrease through normal aging due to decreased testicular production despite a proper brain stimulus. This is one of the most common reasons for med to have symptoms and seek therapy. Other reasons for Low testosterone  include certain types of brain tumors, obesity, and unknown reasons why the brain simply does not respond to low levels and does not stimulate production

Adrenal Fatigue and Hormonal Imbalance

How do the adrenal glands help us cope with stress?
The adrenal glands sit on top of each kidney. They produce a variety of hormones including the fast acting stress hormones, adrenalin and noradrenalin, and the slower acting cortisol and DHEA. These hormones give us the energy we need to feel motivated, and deal with any stress. When we are put into a stressful position, the body releases the hormones to deal with the ‘’physical danger’’ (‘fight or flight’ response). Once the danger is over, the body should naturally go back to a relaxed state and the adrenal gland returns hormone levels back to normal. However our modern way of living can create continuous levels of stress, for extended periods of time. This in turn causes the adrenal glands to continually pump out those stress hormones. It is not just emotional stress that causes this but also diet deficiencies; pain, chronic inflammation, microbiome imbalance/digestive infections such as h pylori, parasites, SIBO, candida; lack of sleep; over training; auto immune. Eventually, the adrenals will become fatigued if they are continually stimulated. This is the exhaustion stage of stress where eventually the adrenals will produce abnormally low levels of the stress hormones (DHEA; Cortisol); we are then tired, anxious and exhausted.

How are your sex hormones connected to adrenal exhaustion?
One of the biggest hormone problems for women is low progesterone levels which is fairly common. Of course this hormone lowers naturally with menopause or perimenopause. However it can lower a little too much making you feel tired; anxious; low libido; stressed; unable to cope. Even young females maybe experiencing an unnatural fall in progesterone.
Progesterone is synthesized fairly early in the hormonal cascade, and its activity is highly influenced by the level of stress – either physical or emotional that a woman is experiencing.  To explain this further, let’s talk about pregnenolone steal or progesterone steal. Pregnenolone is the primary “precursor” hormone. The primary decision the body makes with pregnenolone is whether it wants to makes sex hormones like progesterone or stress hormones like cortisol.  If a woman is stressed, her body “steals” the pregnenolone and uses it for stress hormone production instead eg making more cortisol (especially if your levels of cortisol are dropping because the adrenals are becoming exhausted). However other hormones can be affected too in this turmoil, hence your Dr or therapist may find low hormonal levels across the board. But progesterone will be the one that is hardest hit. The body is basically ‘stealing’ this hormone to allow you to produce more cortisol in order to ‘cope’.

Common symptoms of low cortisol (which may start the progesterone steal):
•  Symptoms associated with Blood sugar imbalances (hungry all the time, the need to snack, light-headed—jittery without food) or the use of drugs, such as caffeine, sugar and alcohol to ramp up energy and mood.
•  Digestive problems
•  Poor immune system leading to frequent infections, and inflammatory symptoms.
•  Hormonal problems such as PMS, low libido, fertility problems.
•  Mental and physical fatigue
•  Depression
•  Sleep problems and insomnia
•  Headaches
•  Low blood pressure

Symptoms of DHEA deficiency include:
•  Persisting fatigue
•  Depression
•  Anxiety
•  Hypersensitivity to noise
•  Loss of libido
•  Dry eyes
•  Dry skin and hair
•  Loss of head hair

Reversing adrenal burn out and aid your hormonal balance
Saliva testing to determine cortisol levels is the first step to assessing your adrenal health. Healing happens on a cellular level, and flooding the body with nutrients to nourish, support, and rebuild the mitochondria while addressing hormone balance is a comprehensive solution. Reception can give you an adrenal stress test kit and organise our Nutritional Therapy – Functional Medicine practitioner to give you a call regarding the next steps. She will organise to meet with you once she has the results, and develop a programme to help re balance your adrenal health working in conjunction with the programme you are following with the BHRT. The adrenals stress test is a saliva test, which can be carried out in the comfort of your home and returned direct to the laboratory by you.

The New Technology – Radiofrequency internal and external Remodelling

How does it work?

The Mews Practice use state of the art technology –Radiofrequency.
By applying heat to the skin in a carefully controlled and monitored manner, a healing and tightening cascade is initiated in the underlying tissues. The results can be immediate with continued improvement over time.

–      Immediate collagen contraction – tightening
–      Collagen and elastin remodelling – this increases the elasticity of the tissues
–      Collagen production which continues long term

Why The Mews ?
The Mews use state of the art Radiofrequency technology known as InMode

The Mews practice have a protocol that offers a longer treatment (Forma V) together with the option of additional  technology for the external feminine parts (Fractora V)

This means that results are effective and the need for more frequent treatments are likely to be less and more cost effective for the patient.

Our patients have seen benefits from one treatment which is sustained.

Treatment Options

Forma V– Gentle thermal tissue remodelling (internal and external) – 40 -50 minutes

Forma V is a type of subdermal heating technology that can apply radiofrequency heating to both the internal vaginal tissue, as well as the external tissue of the vulva and labia. The machine allows the doctors to provide precise and customized care for the patients in the areas that need the most help.

Fractora V– Fractional Radiofrequency contraction + Carboxy therapy (external ) – 60 minutes

Fractora V utilizes fractional radiofrequency energy. The goal of this machine is to help improve issues with the texture of the skin, and it can even help to tighten the skin. It does this by resurfacing the area that needs treatment. Those who use the machine can target the exact zones that need help quickly and easily. It has the potential to improve collagen and elastin in the area too. The Mews offer a individual service which includes carboxy therapy on the vulval (external)  and the inner thigh.

Votiva – Combination of Forma V and Fractora V-     90 minute treatment

What is the down time?

Our experience has been little or no discomfort with the Forma V; therefore there is no down time and generally no discomfort.

The Factora element of treatment is a little more intense with slight discomfort during and immediately after treatment. The use of local anaesthesia limits the discomfort.

How Many Sessions are required ?

The clinician will discuss the best treatment plan for you. As the level of regeneration is determined by the length of contact as well as the optimum temperature, our treatments are longer than in other comparators.

Our experience is that one to three sessions are needed ,usually 4 to 6 weeks apart. Most notice a difference after one session

Members receive a 10% discount on the service.

What is Ferinject?

Iron deficiency is also know an Anaemia. Anemia occurs when there are low levels of haemoglobin in the red bloods cells. Issues such as blood loss or digestive problems may lead of an iron deficiency and anaemia.  Providing iron intravenously can be more effective as it relies on the iron being delivered in a way that bypasses the digestive process.

Ferinject is an intravenous treatment for patients who have low levels of iron in the body. Over time low levels of iron can lead to anaemia, where haemoglobin levels are low or red blood cells are fewer than normal.

How does it work?

Ferinject contains iron in the form of minute particles of iron with a sugar coating. The iron is gradually released from the sugar coating into the body. Iron is required to transport oxygen around the body and also has other important roles to play in keeping your body healthy.

What is the process?

The process will involve a consultation with a clinician before the treatment. The doctor will require information on issues including your medical history.  They will also review any medication that you may be taking.  The consultation will thoroughly cover any potential side effects of the treatment. During this consultation, blood tests may need to be taken which come at an extra cost. The infusion itself should take around 30 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

You may only need a single dose of Ferinject or you may need to return for further treatments to complete your course. Once you have finished your course of treatment you may be asked to return to have a further blood test to assess your progress. At future appointments, your doctor will continue to check that the amount of iron in your body stays within the right range for you. You may also need further courses of treatment in the future.

Nutritional Therapy – Functional Medicine
Nutritional Therapy not simply about ‘food’. Grounded in recognised science and evidence based research it examines how our health can be affected by not only what we eat but also by ourlifestyle, emotions, genetics, environmental toxins and stressors.

Our Practitioner
Sarah Wragg BSc (Hons) is a fully qualified and registered Nutritional Therapist graduating from Middlesex University in 2009. Through her science-based degree, our Nutritional Therapist was trained from the Functional Medicine approach to nutrition.  Sarah is also a certified NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) practitioner/coach and can use this in conjunction with Nutritional Therapy to help her clients achieve their goals.

Functional Medicine
Functional Medicine is based on the understanding that all the ‘systems’ of the body are inter-related, including the digestive, hormonal, endocrine, neurological, detoxification, energy and immune systems, each one impacting the other.  When it comes to health and ‘dis-ease’, understanding these complex connections in the body is the key to positive results. Sarah aims to identify, through a detailed first consultation, events in your life that might have contributed to a state of ill health or just feeling below par. This includes assessing pre-conception, childhood illnesses, long-term diet patterns, genetics, environmental exposures, sleep issues, medications, emotional and physical stressors, with the aim to rebalance and address the health issues you are facing. Laboratory tests are often suggested in order to achieve a more targeted approach to your programme. Our practitioner works with fully regulated laboratories, with state of the art testing.

Who Is It For?
Virtually everyone can benefit from Nutritional Therapy – Functional Medicine. Even if you do not have a particular health concern but you are confused over the correct supplement to take or food to eat, Sarah can help make information clearer for you. Sarah works with adults, elderly and children with a range of issues from mental health; sports; chronic fatigue/ME/fatigue; digestive; hormonal problems; lymes disease; fertility problems; anxiety; skin; weight; auto-immune; immunity; joint or inflammatory concerns; or clients whom simply want to improve health or assess their nutritional intake. Please always feel free to contact us concerning any health concern.

What is the process?
Sarah’s approach is to meet with you and understand your needs through careful questioning and research. Having worked in the corporate world for many years before re-training, she is very much a realist and is aware that most of us lead busy lives, which are often shaped by deeply rooted habits. Together, you will explore your key concerns, issues or goals.

First Consultation
Up to 75 minutes
Clients are required to complete a health questionnaire prior to the consultation. Sarah will give you feedback at the end of the consultation about how you can work together and any functional laboratory tests she feels maybe appropriate. Tests are not always necessary, however they allow for a more targeted approach to your programme.
Following the consultation Sarah will complete a further detailed analysis, taking into account your priorities and will compile an individually tailored programme, which will be sent onto you by email. This may include some supplements. Please be aware the initial cost includes not only the time spent together in the consultation but also the time spent writing up your detailed programme, your food plan, handouts, ordering of test kits.

Follow Up Consultations
Up to 60 minutes
It is important to have at least one follow-up session with our Nutritional Therapist. This may entail discussing any test results or health programmes you have already started. Every client is unique – therefore Sarah may need to change your programme as you progress. Please be aware the follow up cost includes not only the time spent together in the consultation but also the time spent amending your programme, interpretation of results, handouts and ordering any further test kits.

Sarah offers complimentary 15 minute calls to discuss any concerns you may have or queries before booking your appointment. Please ask reception for more details about this.

Lipogems is a therapy that uses a device to create an injectable healing tissue (MSC tissue) made from your own fat tissue reserves. The MSC can be used to:

  • Repair injured or damaged tissue
  • Provide cushion and structural support that enhances your body’s natural healing process.

Your initial appointment

You will have an initial appointment to review any recent diagnostic tests you may have had or ensure they are carried out prior to the procedure to ensure this is the correct treatment for you.

The procedure

  • Takes approximately 1 hour
  • Is a minimally invasive procedure under local anaesthetic in order to remove the fat tissue from your abdomen, slightly slimmer people may have this removed from the hips
  • Once the fat tissue has been removed this will be cleansed using innovative technology that harvests the healing MSC tissue and activates its regenerative properties
  • The active MSC is then injected in the area requiring regeneration by a trained clinician.

How does it work?

  • Repair damaged tissue (for example, after an injury or operation)
  • Speed up tissue growth and regeneration
  • Reduce inflammation, helping tissues to heal more quickly
  • Improve blood flow by creating new blood vessels
  • Reduce areas of internal or external scarring

The advantages of using fat:

  • There is plenty of fat in the body
  • It can be easily ‘harvested’ using a minimally invasive procedure carried out using a local anaesthetic
  • Fat contains cells that help to heal damaged tissue
  • Research has shown that, no matter how old you are, fat is still able to retain its healing properties

You may be a candidate for Lipogems if:

  • You suffer from an injury or ailment that limits your normal daily functioning or physical activity.
  • Treatment options, such as physical therapy, NSAIDs, or steroid injections have not provided significant relief.
  • You would like to explore Lipogems as a minimally invasive alternatively  to a major surgical intervention.
  • Exploring natural aesthetic options  (skin improvement , scar healing)

Side effects

  • This includes minimal down time however some recovery will be necessary including physiotherapy and carrying out specific exercises to improve muscle strength
  • Slight discomfort around the area of incision
  • The following day may be slightly stiff around the area of treatment

Lipogems can be used in conjunction with Platelet Rich Plasma.

What is Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment in which a device is used to pass acoustic shockwaves at a set frequency through the skin to the affected area. It is purely a mechanical wave- not an electric one. Shockwave is an accepted intervention in the UK and treatment may provide pain relief for chronic tendinopathies.

What can ESWT treat?

Shockwave Therapy is effective at treating:

  • Neck Pain (Myofascial pain syndromes)
  • Shoulder Pain (Calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder, subacrominal pain syndrome)
  • Back Pain (Myofascial pain syndromes, idiopathic lowerback pain and pseudoradicular syndromes)
  • Elbow Pain (Lateral and medial epicondylitis)
  • Hand Pain (Dupuytrens disease, De Quervain disease, trigger finger and Carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • Hip Pain (Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome)
  • Hamstring Pain (Hamstring tendinopathy, insertional)
  • Knee Pain (Osteoarthritis, patella tip syndrome)
  • Osgood -Schlatter Disease
  • Achilles Pain (Achilles tendinopathy, insertional and mid body)
  • Heel Pain(Plantarfasciopathy)

What is CarboxyTherapy?

Carboxytherapy is the administration of carbon dioxide [CO2] gas for therapeutic purposes. Carbon Dioxide is the gas that gives carbonated beverages their “fizz.” Carbon dioxide is naturally present in our bodies at all times and it is essential to the life processes of both animals and plants.  This carbon dioxide can actually be very useful. Dark under-eye circles, cellulite, and scars are believed to caused, at least in part, due to poor blood-flow to the region.  By injecting a small amount of carbon dioxide gas into the area, we are “tricking” the body into increasing the oxygen flow to the area by compelling the red blood cells to pick up all of the excess CO2that we injected so that it can be carried back to the lungs for elimination from the body with the next exhalation.

What are some clinical uses for CarboxyTherapy?

CarboxyTherapy is used for the treatment of dark under-eye circles, stretch-marks, cellulite reduction, and non-surgical fat sculpting on the face and the body.

What areas of the body can be treated with CarboxyTherapy?

CarboxyTherapy can be used to treat the eyelids, face, neck, arms, stomach.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends upon the severity of the problem being treated. Usually, six to twelve treatments spaced one week apart yields an excellent result.
